How will family status affect how my ad is served?

Print

Ads are reviewed and categorized as 'Family Safe,' 'Non-Family Safe,' or 'Adult Sexual Content' depending on the content of the ad and website.

The family status given to your ad may affect how the ad is delivered:

  • Ads categorized as 'Adult Sexual Content' aren't accepted in certain countries such as Algeria, Bahrain, China, Djibouti, Egypt, Germany, India, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Such ads won't appear on Google search pages or via the Google Network for those countries.

  • Some types of ads, such as image and video ads, are only allowed as 'Family Safe.' View the AdWords approval policies by ad type.

  • Some sites and products in the Google Network may not accept any type of ad that is rated 'Adult' or even 'Non-Family Safe.'

  • Google does not permit ads that are classified as 'Non-Family Safe' or 'Adult' to appear for users who have activated their Safe Search filter.

  • Ads categorized as 'Adult Sexual Content' and 'Non-Family Safe' will appear for all search queries considered 'adult' in nature.

  • Ads categorized as 'Family Safe' will also appear for exact match search queries that are considered 'adult' in nature.

  • Ads categorized as 'Family Safe' will appear for all search queries considered 'non-adult' in nature.

  • Ads categorized as 'Non-Family Safe' will also appear for exact, phrase and broad match search queries that are considered 'non-adult' in nature.
